Dance Movement
Dance Movement is a class specifically created by Suhaila to teach her belly dance students the fundamentals of ballet, modern and jazz. However, the class is great for everyone - dancers, belly dancers and people with absolutely no dance training. It will increase coordination, help expand familiarity with western dance terminology, and promote better posture and body placement.
The class will guide students through several ballet and jazz warm up techniques, strength-building exercises and across the floor patterns. Each class focuses on a different main movement as the course moves through an eight-week rotation. Students are guaranteed to learn how to plie, tendu, degage, rond de jambe, battement, passé, arabesque, execute basic turns all of the essential dance positions and much more if they continue through all eight weeks. This is a fun, hardworking class that many locals stay in for years at the “mothership” studio.
Dance Movement is also an essential part of the SSBD format (students who want to move on to Level 2 are supposed to take the full eight-week rotation of Dance Movement before hand). Foot patterns referred to in level 2 and 3 classes as well as Suhaila’s choreographies are taught in dance movement and it is expected that students are already familiar with such terms.
