Maintaining Certification

Certification is valid for TWO years from date of recognition and can be extended by either testing for the next level or maintaining a certain number of Continuing Education Credit's (CECs). In addition to current membership in the SSSBD, the following hours are required for each level.

Required CECs by Level for Suhaila’s format:

Level 1: 20 CEC Hours
Level 2: 30 CEC Hours
Level 3: 50 CEC Hours
Level 4: 50 CEC Hours
Level 5: 50 CEC Hours
25 TA Hours

Required CECs by Level for Jamila’s format:

Level 1: 20 CEC Hours
Level 2: 30 CEC Hours
Current SSBD Level 1 Certification
Level 3: 30 CEC Hours
Conceptual CEC assignments
Current SSBD Level 1 Certification

  • CECs can only be obtained through an authorized instructor of the Suhaila Salimpour School of Belly Dance or through approved classes/workshops taught by currently certified SSBD Level 5 dancers (for SSBD certification) or JSBD Level 3 dancers (for JSBD certification).

  • CECs from one two-year period may not be rolled over to the next two year period.

  • Weekly classes at Suhaila's main studio, regardless of class length, count for 1 CEC hour each.

  • Any classes or workshops that are approved to be used as CECs for SSBD certification may also be used for JSBD certification. For example, if a student takes a SSBD Level 2 workshop, those CEC hours may be used for both SSBD and JSBD certification.

  • JSBD classes and workshop hours are only valid as CECs for the JSBD format and may not be used as CECs for the SSBD format.

  • Students who register for a full consecutive year of Online Classes in one payment may receive 5 CECs to apply to both their Suhaila and Jamila certifications. To receive credit, follow the submission procedures below, including proof of payment

How to submit your CECs:

CECs are not entered automatically. To receive credit for qualifying classes and workshops, attendees are responsible for submitting the following information by email. (Alternatively, you can mail the information to 425 San Pablo Ave Albany, CA 94706.)
