Asia!!
I know something is wrong with me when a 14 hour plane ride home from Asia seems short. I think it was because I was still “buzzing” from having my first certified dancers in Asia. I was so proud of the many dancers and new students I met in Hong Kong and Taiwan. I can’t wait to go back!
I loved the countries of China and Taiwan. I love the energy. I love the language, and I love the hospitality. Just being in the streets was exciting! I am always so happy to find that in Asian culture, being respectful of instructors is a top priority. Each experience had a unique charm. I truly feel that, thanks to this trip, our dance community and sisterhood has expanded.
The crew that came with me: Nadia, Vashti, Sabriye, and Luka, added to the euphoric experience. I had three wonderful teaching assistants all working towards their level 3, 4 or 5 certification in my program. This was so helpful for all the level 1 testing students because they were able to ask questions about their future too.
When we weren’t bringin’ the sweat, we were wiggling our way through the streets of Hong Kong or Taiwan shopping, eating, and jumping in puddles in the rain. I think my most giggle-inducing moment was during an acupressure foot message that Luka and I got…. it was so painful that I couldn’t help but laugh my ass off! However, Nadia and Sabriye trying to learn how to explain my technique in Chinese comes in a close, hysterical second.
I look forward to next spring when I return to China for more fun-filled teaching of the Suhaila Format. Until then I’m excited to be sending my authorized instructors back a month at a time to train the dancers in Hong Kong!
